Climate Control Options

The foundation of any cellar revolves around the design choice and installation of climate control equipment which includes both temperature and humidity controls.  All too often we have seen cellars where the choice of equipment (or the lack of) has resulted in an extremely disappointed cellar owner – leaving aside the wine issues.

Essentially there are three choices;

Self Contained Systems

These units are mounted through an interior cellar wall into an adjacent ventilated area and are ideal for many situations up to 50m³.  EuroCave is the world leader in this field and we exclusively import their range into Australia.

Price Range: $4,500 - $6,500

Split Systems

This approach is where the condenser is outside the cellar and the evaporator is often mounted internally on the ceiling or wall.  These require more detailed installation and design advice and are ideal for larger cellars or where the self contained system is not a feasible alternative.

Price Range: $7,000 - $18,000

Air Handling Systems

These systems use a series of vents and ducts to move air into the cellar from a central plant.  This is the most aesthetic approach and the most costly.

Price Range: $15,000 - $25,000
