Decking Out Your Cellar

Scenario 1

Imagine going into your cellar to retrieve a bottle of wine then walking out again, bottle in hand.

Scenario 2

Now imagine inviting your dinner guests into your cellar.  It is a stunning space with limited edition vintage wine art on the walls, an antique French riddling rack in the corner housing your best champagnes and a striking piece of solid oak furniture against the back wall containing your collection of decanters.

Having retrieved a bottle of 1988 French Burgundy, you gently pull the cork (in mint condition of course since your climate controlled cellar has been professionally built) with the antique corkscrew your partner bought for your birthday. After tasting the wine, you decant it into your favourite Riedel decanter using a wine funnel and aerator to filter any residue and aerate the wine then stroll back with your guests for cocktails.  Just before the main meal is served, you check whether the wine is at its ideal serving temperature using your latest gadget, the infrared wine thermometer. After serving the wine, your guests can’t help commenting on the quality of such an aged red and a conversation ensues about wine and the pleasures it brings.
