US brand, Umbra was created by graphic designer Paul Rowan. Frustrated by not being able to find a window shade to hang in his new apartment, Paul created his own. After positive feedback from friends, he teamed up with his friend Les Mandelbaum to create Umbra (which means 'shade' in Latin).
