In his book, The World's Greatest Wine Estates, Robert Parker says that the
“Vieilles Vignes can be one of the greatest wines made in the world (the 1998
and 2000 for example), if not the single most phenomenal wine in Chateauneuf du
Pape. The regular cuvee of Marcoux is no wimpy wine either. In top vintages, it
is a powerful Chateauneuf du Pape that is given the same elevage and...is
bottled without fining or filtration."
With thirteen plots of land scattered in different parts of the designated
Chateauneuf du Pape area, the average age of Marcoux vines is 50 years. All
harvesting is performed manually, and harvesting time is determined by grape
maturity – which varies from one area to another in the Domaine. Comprised of a
blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre, this wine offers intense aromatics and
texture with deep black cherry fruit, anise, roasted herbs and other subtle
spices. Super-fine tannins are followed by a long, mineral-infused finish. This
is an excellent example of a refined Côtes du Rhône. Extremely limited – don’t
miss out!
