The Zalto family have been glassmakers for
six generations and produce high quality mouth-blown glasses from Neunagelberg,
Austria. The distinctive Zalto glass design features an fine, elegant stem and
an angular bowl shape, inspired by the angles of the earth (24°, 48° and 72° -
the tilt angles of the earth).
The ancient Romans utilised angles in the design
of their food storage vessels and discovered that food tasted better and stayed
fresher for longer when stored in these special containers. "Due to these
cosmic parallels, we believe that a wine can reach its utmost potential in a
Denk`Art glass, developing everything that is possible on the nose as well as on
palate, due to these cosmic parallels." - Zalto.
The
German stern magazine issued the invitations, and they all came. The ten most
important glassworks in Europe, including Riedel, Zwiesel, Stölzle and Lobmeyer,
were represented and their stemware underwent an extensive blind tasting. The
result? First
place for Zalto Denk’Art Glassware for the each one of three specified
categories - Riesling, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
This
was very likely the most professional and comprehensive evaluation of wine
glasses ever undertaken. A jury of prominent specialists, consisting of
ten well-known sommeliers, journalists and the producers themselves (among
others, Georg Riedel, Eberhard Eisch, Gerhard Frank from Zwiesel Kristallglas),
donned blindfolds and white gloves. Overseen by an enthusiastic high magistrate
on holiday from the bench, they—fully independently—framed their verdict. Zalto
was represented by their White Wine glass, their Burgundy glass and their
Bordeaux glass—and crowned as the master in each class.
Tip: Clean with Splash Glass and Crystal Wash, dry on a glassware drying stand and polish with the Riedel Glassware
Cloth.
