Wine cellar climate control systems that create
the ideal conditions for cellaring your wine collection.

Selecting a purpose-built wine cellar climate control system when designing or building a cellar
for wine storage is critical. Traditional air conditioners are just not designed to handle the low
temperatures that wine requires to mature gracefully, and can remove moisture from the air
which can be detrimental to wine.

A correctly selected climate control system can transform almost any space into a proper
wine room or cellar. Our range of climate control systems includes units that can be installed
in the ceiling or bulkhead of any wine cellar with only a discreet vent visible. Our specialist
team can help determine the best wine storage climate control system for your space and
provide advice on all technical aspects of designing or building a cellar.

Wine Cellar vs Wine Room Climate Control

If you are confused about the difference between a wine cellar and a wine room then you are not alone.
Often these terms are used interchangeably which can be correct, however “wine room” can also more
broadly refer to a space that is used to taste and enjoy wine, usually with a group of people. A stunning
example of this is the private wine room by CoLab Design.

The important thing when designing or building a wine room or wine cellar, is that you create a space
with the essential environmental conditions necessary to protect your wine collection longer term,
which is why selecting the right climate control system is so important.

If you are creating the space for entertaining purposes then a wine room with a wall of wine cabinets
or fridges may be the ideal option. These provide wine storage at 12-140C whilst the rest of the room
can be kept at a comfortable temperature for you and others. This differs from a wine cellar when
the entire room needs to be maintained at a low temperature.

If you have always dreamed of a traditional walk in wine cellar or a stunning feature in your home to
protect and showcase your wine, then you must ensure that the space is insulated adequately and install
a wine cellar climate control unit with the appropriate cooling power. This will be determined by the size
of the space, construction materials and other factors such as lighting and the positioning items used to
fit out the cellar. There are lots of technical considerations when creating wine storage and our specialist
team can assist whatever your vision may be. For inspiration, take a look at some of our projects.

Wine Storage Climate Control

How your wine collection matures over time plays a significant role in how much pleasure you will derive from drinking it when you finally pop the cork (or unscrew the cap as it may be). All wine, regardless of its varietal, needs to be stored in a consistent climate to mature over time. These include (1) a consistent temperature of 12-140C; (2) a constant humidity of 55-75%; (3) minimal vibrations; (4) darkness as UV can be damaging; and (5) some airflow.

Our team of cellaring consultants can assist you in determining how to achieve the best wine storage climate control or wine cellar cooling unit, ensuring that your wine matures as the wine maker intended and that you experience the magic of well cellared wine!
